What is it that we call waste? What is the composition of our waste in Bedford? Where does our trash and recycling go? What is Zero Waste? Learn the facts about the waste we generate and where it ends up. Learn how to reduce your household waste by Reducing what you consume, Reusing what you buy and Recycling what you discard. Learn what is currently being done locally and how can we improve our waste reduction through purchasing choices, composting and recycling.
Bio
Neil Cutler, Founder, Synergis. After nine years running residential and commercial recycling collection programs in California, Mr. Cutler founded Synergis in 1997 to help commercial businesses better manage their waste. In 2004, Mr. Cutler expanded the company’s services to include zero waste strategies. Mr. Cutler has been directly involved with the design and implementation of all waste reduction and zero waste programs for the company, and works with office, retail, industrial, multi-family, school and municipal clients. In 2007, Mr. Cutler provided technical expertise to the Westchester County Global Warming Task Force, and today provides waste reduction and zero waste consulting services to businesses and organizations in the Northeast and California.
Thomas Lauro, Westchester County Commissioner, Environmental Facilities. Mr Lauro, a licensed professional engineer was Past President of the New York Water Environment Association. He received his Masters of Engineering (Environmental Engineer) from Manhattan College, in 1978 and his BE in 1972
Kevin Winn, Department of Public Works, Commissioner, Town of Bedford. Kevin is a licensed, professional engineer with more than twenty years of public works, water and wastewater industry experience. His background includes management of municipal public works departments, operation and maintenance of water and wastewater systems, and design and management of utility system improvements. He is currently responsible for managing Bedford’s Public Works Department, including the Highway Division, Water Division, and Recycling Center. Mr. Winn received his M.E. in Environmental Engineering from Manhattan College in 1996 and his B.E. in Civil Engineering from Manhattan College in 1991.
